What's happening

This bill requires the creation of an online farmer resource portal to help New York farmers access grants, regulations, and other key information.

Why it matters

  1. Streamlines access to critical resources. By consolidating information on grants, loans, and regulations, the portal can save farmers significant time and effort, making it easier to find financial support and comply with changing laws.

  2. Promotes transparency and engagement. Detailed listings of all agricultural boards and commissions, including member information and meeting schedules, could help farmers become more involved in policy discussions and decision-making processes that affect their livelihoods.

  3. Encourages use of research and innovation. Easy access to agricultural research funded or conducted on behalf of New York State may help farmers adopt new practices or technologies, potentially improving productivity and sustainability.

  4. Adapts to evolving needs. The portal’s design allows the commissioner to add further relevant information over time, ensuring the resource remains current and responsive to the needs of New York’s farming community.
