What's happening

This bill repeals a section of New York law related to suspension and revocation of firearms licenses from 2013.

Why it matters

  1. Impacts how and when firearms licenses can be suspended or revoked. By repealing this section, the bill could alter the procedures or criteria that authorities use to suspend or revoke gun licenses, potentially making it easier or harder to take such actions depending on the effect of the original 2013 law.

  2. May affect legal clarity around 'assault weapons'. The repealed section relates to firearms license actions connected to the definition of an 'assault weapon,' so this change could influence how certain firearms are regulated or which weapons are subject to license suspension/revocation.

  3. Changes post-2013 gun law framework. The original section was part of a broader package of gun control reforms passed in 2013, so removing it could signal a policy shift or rollback of some controls enacted in response to public safety concerns at that time.
