What's happening
This bill names part of Route 102 in Uniondale "Highway Dedicated to Jomani 'Jo-Jo' Wright."
Why it matters
This bill directly affects the Uniondale area in Nassau County,. recognizing a specific stretch of Route 102 and thereby bringing local attention to a figure significant to that community.
The dedication is ceremonial in nature,. meaning the physical highway will have signs honoring Jomani "Jo-Jo" Wright, but the official name used for maps, addresses, and legal purposes will remain unchanged—minimizing disruption for residents, businesses, and emergency services.
Installation and maintenance of new signage will be required by the Department of Transportation,. resulting in a visible, ongoing public acknowledgment that may foster community pride and memorialize local contributions or tragedies, especially resonating with youth and families in the area.
