What's happening
The bill ensures that funds raised by volunteer ambulance companies through fundraising are not counted when determining state aid or reimbursements.
Why it matters
Protects local fundraising efforts. Volunteer ambulance companies will not be penalized for their own fundraising success, ensuring that community-raised funds don't reduce the amount of state support they receive.
Promotes financial stability for EMS. By excluding fundraising income from calculations for state aid and reimbursement, the bill helps volunteer EMS organizations maintain more reliable and predictable funding streams.
Encourages community engagement. This change supports and incentivizes local fundraising efforts, recognizing the value of community involvement without risking loss of state resources.
Levels the playing field. Smaller or less wealthy communities that rely heavily on fundraising won't be disadvantaged when state funding is determined, supporting equity across regions.
