What's happening
This bill limits candidates to one authorized committee per election, per office, and defines rules for multi-candidate committees.
Why it matters
Reduces opportunities for “committee hopping” and complex fundraising schemes. by requiring candidates to have only one authorized committee per election, per office—making it harder to obscure or shift funds between multiple committees for the same campaign.
Creates a clear distinction between single-candidate and multi-candidate committees. , defining “multi-candidate committee” and ensuring these broader fundraising groups cannot be co-opted as direct campaign arms for individual candidates.
Enhances transparency and accountability in campaign finance. by mandating joint authorization statements from both committee treasurers and candidates, making it easier for regulators and the public to track who is responsible for campaign activities and finances.
Limits the ability of candidates to exploit loopholes in contribution limits. (such as by setting up multiple authorized committees for the same race), potentially reducing the influence of large donors and special interests.
