What's happening
This bill requires assisted living facilities to give residents at least 180 days' notice before changing medical or support service contracts.
Why it matters
Gives residents and their families more time to plan. By requiring 180 days’ notice before any changes to medical or support service contracts, residents and their representatives have half a year to adjust to new providers, costs, or care arrangements, reducing the risk of abrupt disruptions to their well-being.
Improves transparency and trust. The longer notice period forces facilities to communicate significant changes well in advance, giving residents and their families clearer insight into what to expect and promoting a sense of security.
May affect how facilities negotiate contracts. Assisted living operators will need to anticipate changes far earlier, potentially leading to more stable and predictable service agreements and preventing last-minute contract terminations or modifications.
