What's happening
This bill repeals the section of New York election law that provides for public financing of political campaigns.
Why it matters
Eliminating public campaign financing could increase the influence of private and special interest money in New York elections, since candidates will need to rely more heavily on private donations.
Repealing these provisions may make it harder for candidates without access to wealthy donors to run competitive campaigns, possibly reducing the diversity of voices and backgrounds represented in state government.
This change could affect public trust in the electoral process, as public financing systems are often designed to reduce corruption and promote transparency in campaign funding.
