What's happening

This bill requires school crossing guards on every corner of city blocks with high schools during arrival and dismissal times.

Why it matters

  1. Aims to significantly increase the daily presence of crossing guards. around high schools by mandating their placement on every corner of city blocks with high schools, potentially improving safety for thousands of students during the busiest times of day.

  2. Targets both public and private high schools. , ensuring equitable protection for all students in grades 9-12, regardless of the type of school they attend.

  3. Requires extra crossing guards at high-traffic locations. , specifically mandating additional personnel on streets with four or more lanes, which are often more dangerous for pedestrians, thereby addressing areas of higher risk.

  4. Could impact city budgets and staffing needs. , as the law would require hiring and deploying a larger number of crossing guards across New York City, possibly affecting municipal resources and operations.
