This resolution urges Governor Hochul to proclaim April 24-30, 2025 as Immunization Week in New York State.
Why it matters
Highlights the ongoing threat of vaccine-preventable diseases. The resolution points out that diseases like measles and whooping cough are still a risk in New York and elsewhere, especially when misinformation leads to lower vaccination rates.
Emphasizes the broad impact of immunizations. It draws attention to the fact that vaccines protect not only young children but also adolescents and adults from a wide range of serious illnesses, some of which can be fatal or cause long-term complications.
Connects New York’s actions to global health efforts. By referencing World Health Organization data and global disease prevention, the resolution situates New York’s Immunization Week as part of a broader public health movement, reinforcing the state's role in combating preventable deaths worldwide.
Signals political and social support for vaccines. The resolution is a public declaration by lawmakers supporting immunization and countering anti-vaccine misinformation, potentially influencing public attitudes and future policy debates.
