What's happening

This resolution honors Robert Jesse Warrington posthumously with a Liberty Medal for his military service and community contributions.

Why it matters

  1. Highlights the importance of recognizing both military and community service. Robert Jesse Warrington is honored not only for his Navy service during the Cold War but also for his extensive local involvement, reflecting the broader values of service beyond the battlefield.

  2. Underscores the value of post-service contributions. The resolution points to Warrington’s active roles in organizations like the VFW and the Kinderhook Fire Department, as well as his participation in athletics, illustrating how veterans continue to enrich their communities after their military careers.

  3. Serves as a reminder of the state’s commitment to honoring veterans and their families. By publicly acknowledging Warrington’s service and ensuring his family receives a copy of the resolution, New York reinforces the message that the sacrifices and legacies of veterans are deeply valued and remembered.

  4. Frames the Liberty Medal as a symbol of the highest respect. The award not only celebrates Warrington’s individual achievements but also promotes public awareness of the ongoing debt owed to servicemembers, encouraging others to recognize and support veterans in their own communities.
