What's happening

This resolution honors Nancy and Jerome Federlein for their lifetime of volunteer service and special recognition by the Community Chest of Port Washington.

Why it matters

  1. Highlights the value of sustained local volunteerism. By detailing the Federleins' decades-long service across education, food security, and community organizations, the resolution underscores the lasting impact that sustained civic engagement can have on a community’s well-being.

  2. Showcases the influence of international service on local action. Both honorees’ backgrounds in global service programs (Peace Corps, Voluntary Service Overseas) demonstrate how international perspectives and skills can enrich local communities upon return.

  3. Serves as a model for recognizing community leaders. The formal recognition aims to inspire others to volunteer and demonstrates that such contributions are valued at the highest levels of state government, reinforcing the social fabric and collective responsibility.

  4. Records local legacy for future generations. By inscribing this tribute in official legislative records, the resolution ensures that future residents and leaders have accessible examples of exemplary character, providing aspirational benchmarks for community involvement.
