What's happening
This bill requires sellers of motor vehicle tires in New York to include each tire's manufacture date on the sales receipt.
Why it matters
Helps consumers make informed decisions. by providing the exact manufacture date of each tire, allowing buyers to avoid purchasing older tires that may have degraded in quality even if unused.
Increases safety awareness. , since older tires are more prone to failure due to rubber aging, and this information can help drivers avoid the risks associated with installing outdated tires on their vehicles.
Promotes transparency and accountability among tire sellers. by requiring them to disclose key product details, potentially discouraging the sale of tires that have been sitting in inventory for extended periods.
Aligns with broader consumer protection trends. seen in other industries, potentially setting a precedent for similar disclosure requirements for other safety-critical vehicle components.

Purpose
This bill would require that the manufacture date of motor vehicle tires be included on the consumer's receipt when purchased.
Summary of provisions
Section I. The general business law is amended by adding a new section 391-x to include the receipt of the sale of motor vehicle tires for providing the manufacture date of tires purchased.
Section 2. Sets for the effective date.
Justification
Currently, the manufacture date of motor vehicle tires appears only on the tire itself. There have been cases of tires not passing annual inspection due to the fact they were old tires being sold as new. Having that date also appear on the consumer's receipt when purchased will prevent this from happening.
