BILL NUMBER:A6939A
Title of bill
An act to amend the insurance law, in relation to rules relating to the processing of health claims and overpayments to physi- cians and other health care providers
Purpose or general idea of bill
To set forth a number of reforms to the manner by which health insurance companies process claims for health insurance benefits from health care providers.
This bill amends section 3224-b(b) of the Insurance Law by expanding the existing statute to cover all health care providers.
Justification
This legislation seeks to address some of the difficul- ties faced by health care providers when dealing with health insurance plans. In 2006, legislation was signed into law as Chapter 551 that amended the rules relating to the processing of health claims and over- payments to physicians. This legislation would expand the 2006 law to amend the rules relating to the processing of health claims and overpay- ments to all health care providers. This legislation will establish fair, uniform and consistent procedures for the processing of overpay- ment recovery claims for all health care providers.
