What's happening

This bill changes the effective date for licensure requirements of pathologists' assistants to July 1, 2018.

Why it matters

  1. Provides clarity and certainty. for current and aspiring pathologists' assistants by setting a fixed date (July 1, 2018) for when licensure requirements begin, rather than a floating date based on when the original law was passed.

  2. Allows regulatory groundwork to start sooner. by explicitly authorizing the Department of Education to set up necessary regulations and begin licensing processes (including forming the state committee and processing applications) prior to the new effective date.

  3. May impact career and hiring decisions. for individuals and institutions, as employers and educational programs now have a definitive timeline to prepare for compliance with the licensure requirements.
