What's happening

This bill requires school districts and charter schools in New York to post all required ancillary agreements online and keep copies on file.

Why it matters

  1. Increases transparency by making all required ancillary agreements (such as technology use, field trip consents, or behavioral contracts) easily accessible to families online, reducing confusion about what parents and students are being asked to sign.

  2. Helps ensure that parents, guardians, and students are fully informed about the conditions and obligations tied to school attendance, potentially reducing disputes or misunderstandings over school policies.

  3. Creates a clear record of ancillary agreements by requiring schools and charter schools to keep copies on file, which can support accountability and provide documentation in case of future questions or legal challenges.

  4. Encourages consistency across districts and charter schools in how ancillary agreements are communicated and maintained, closing gaps where some schools may not have previously made these documents easily available.
