What's happening
This bill designates New York State Route 17B in Sullivan County as "The Woodstock Way" for ceremonial purposes.
Why it matters
Honors Cultural and Historical Significance. By naming Route 17B "The Woodstock Way," the bill formally recognizes the area's historical connection to the 1969 Woodstock Festival, which remains a major cultural touchstone both locally and globally.
Tourism and Local Economy. The ceremonial designation and associated signage could enhance tourism by attracting visitors interested in Woodstock’s legacy, potentially benefiting local businesses and boosting regional pride.
No Impact on Official Road Names or Addresses. The bill specifies that the designation is ceremonial only, meaning there will be no changes to maps, official documents, or addresses, thereby avoiding confusion for residents, businesses, and emergency services.
State Investment in Signage. The Department of Transportation is directed to install and maintain signs marking "The Woodstock Way," indicating a modest but ongoing public investment to visibly commemorate the area’s cultural heritage.
