What's happening
This bill expands financial aid eligibility for New York school districts offering half-day kindergarten programs to additional school years.
Why it matters
Provides more school districts with continued access to state funding. for transitioning from half-day or no kindergarten to full-day programs, especially those that missed earlier eligibility windows.
Creates a phased-out funding model. allowing districts to receive gradually decreasing aid over several years, helping them manage the financial impact of expanding kindergarten offerings.
Targets districts that have not previously received this specific aid. , potentially benefiting lower-resourced or late-adopting districts and encouraging broader full-day kindergarten implementation statewide.
Aligns financial support with updated school years. , ensuring that recent or future changes in kindergarten programming are recognized and supported by state aid.
