What's happening

This bill establishes a volunteer home visitation program for elderly and invalid victims of violent crime in New York.

Why it matters

  1. Addresses unique needs of elderly and invalid crime victims. by offering in-person support, which may help reduce feelings of isolation and vulnerability after a violent incident.

  2. Leverages community volunteers. to provide regular contact and assistance, potentially improving the emotional well-being and safety of victims who may have limited mobility or social networks.

  3. Signals increased government recognition. of the challenges faced by older and disabled New Yorkers who are victims of crime, and the need for specialized services beyond traditional law enforcement or social service responses.

  4. Could build stronger connections between state agencies and community organizations. , as the program requires collaboration with the office for the aging, possibly leading to more comprehensive support systems for vulnerable populations.
