What's happening
This bill ensures school districts pay no more for health services for resident children attending nonpublic schools in other districts than they do for their own students.
Why it matters
Limits financial responsibility for school districts. By capping payments for nonpublic school health services at the same rate paid for resident public school students, this bill prevents districts from being charged more for students attending private or parochial schools in other districts.
Promotes equitable funding. The amendment aims to ensure that all resident children—regardless of whether they attend public or nonpublic schools—are treated equally in terms of health service funding, reducing potential disparities and financial strain on districts with many students enrolled in out-of-district nonpublic schools.
Reduces unpredictability in district budgeting. School districts gain clarity and predictability in budgeting for health services, as they can plan based on the cost per student already established for their own population, rather than facing potentially higher, arbitrary charges from other districts.
Addresses potential inter-district disagreements. By standardizing the payment structure, the bill may help minimize disputes between districts regarding the cost and negotiation of contracts for health services provided to resident nonpublic school students.
