What's happening
This bill increases supplemental education funds for the Yonkers city school district based on public enrollment growth and foundation aid.
Why it matters
Ties funding directly to enrollment growth. , meaning that as more students enroll in Yonkers public schools, the district will receive additional supplemental aid proportionate to that increase, helping to address rising costs and resource needs.
Links supplemental aid to foundation aid calculations. , ensuring that the extra funding reflects changes in the core state education funding formula, which is designed to provide equitable support based on student needs and district wealth.
Removes restrictions on the use of these funds. by specifying that the increase is not subject to section 211-d, potentially giving the Yonkers district more flexibility in how it allocates and spends the new supplemental funds.
Responds to demographic and fiscal pressures. in Yonkers, aiming to prevent budget shortfalls and program cuts that can occur when enrollment rises without corresponding funding increases.
