What's happening

This bill allows uniformed personnel in the NYC Departments of Correction and Sanitation to receive monetary payment instead of terminal leave upon retirement.

Why it matters

  1. Gives retiring uniformed employees in Correction and Sanitation more flexibility. , letting them choose between taking paid time off (terminal leave) or receiving a lump-sum monetary payout, which could help them manage personal finances or transition plans.

  2. Could impact city budgeting and cash flow. , as lump-sum payments might create larger, one-time expenses for the city rather than spreading out costs over the period of terminal leave.

  3. May influence retirement timing and workforce planning. , since immediate cash payouts could make earlier retirement more attractive, potentially affecting department staffing levels and succession planning.

  4. Addresses equity among city uniformed services. , since other public safety employees (like police and fire) may already have similar options, ensuring parity for Correction and Sanitation workers.
