What's happening

Why it matters
Promotes early intervention. by ensuring that students, parents, and school staff receive education on recognizing and preventing unhealthy relationship behaviors, aiming to address issues before they escalate into more serious violence.
Increases access to resources and support. by mandating that materials about teen dating violence, including how to seek help and information about local community services, are readily available to all schools and communities at no cost.
Encourages consistent, statewide standards. by having the Education Department, Health Department, and domestic violence experts develop model curricula and best practices, potentially reducing disparities in how different schools address dating violence.
Fosters ongoing awareness and accountability. by requiring regular updates to educational materials, annual reminders during awareness month, and encouragement for schools to develop their own policies and partnerships with local organizations, creating a sustained and comprehensive approach.
