What's happening

This bill requires central high school districts to use property tax levy and income data from each member school when calculating state aid.

Why it matters

  1. Aims to make state aid calculations more reflective of each member school's local wealth. , by requiring that property tax levy and income data from each individual school in a central high school district be used, rather than district-wide averages—potentially increasing aid to schools in less affluent areas within a district.

  2. Could address imbalances in funding distribution within central high school districts. , ensuring that state aid formulas better account for economic disparities among the component schools, rather than masking them with aggregated data.

  3. May impact local tax policy and school budgeting. , as the new calculation method could change both the amount and distribution of state funds received, influencing decisions on local property taxes and school spending priorities.
