What's happening
This bill establishes the Town of Yorktown Industrial Development Agency to promote economic development within Yorktown, New York.
Why it matters
Creates a new, permanent agency dedicated to economic development in Yorktown, giving the town local control over industrial and commercial growth initiatives.
Limits the agency’s authority to projects within Yorktown’s boundaries, ensuring that development decisions remain locally focused and must comply with existing zoning, planning, and land use regulations.
Gives the Yorktown town government the power to appoint agency members, which could increase accountability and ensure the agency reflects community priorities.
Empowers the agency to use significant tools such as acquiring property (including by condemnation), issuing bonds, and other powers typical of industrial development agencies, potentially impacting local tax base, employment, and land use.
