What's happening
This bill prohibits school employees charged with sexual offenses from entering school grounds until their cases are resolved.
Why it matters
Increases immediate student safety. by ensuring that school employees accused of serious sexual offenses are not present on school grounds while their cases are pending, reducing potential risk to children and the school community.
Impacts due process and employment rights. The bill institutes a policy of removal based on being charged (not convicted), which could raise concerns about fairness and the rights of employees who may later be exonerated.
Affects all school types and staff. Applies broadly to teachers, administrators, and any other school employees in both public and private schools, ensuring consistent standards across all educational institutions.
Shifts school administrative responsibilities. Requires school districts and administrators to actively monitor legal charges against staff and enforce immediate exclusion, potentially increasing administrative workload and coordination with law enforcement.
