What's happening
This bill prohibits advertising and promotions on educational electronic platforms that contain student information and are accessible to school communities.
Why it matters
Protects student privacy and reduces commercialization. By banning ads and promotions on school-related digital platforms that hold student data, the bill helps shield students and their families from targeted marketing and commercial exploitation within educational settings.
Limits outside influence in learning environments. The prohibition ensures that educational platforms remain focused on learning, not on pushing products or services, helping to maintain the integrity of school communications and reduce distractions.
Applies broadly to school communities. The ban covers not just students, but also school staff, administrators, parents, guardians, and anyone involved in a child’s education, addressing the wider ecosystem that interacts with student data and educational tools.
