What's happening
This bill extends the expiration date of certain provisions regarding certified school psychologists and preschool special education from 2018 to 2020.
Why it matters
Ensures continuity of services. By extending the expiration date, the bill maintains the legal basis for certified school psychologists to provide special education services to preschool children, preventing potential disruptions in support for vulnerable students.
Supports early intervention. Keeping these provisions active allows preschoolers with disabilities to continue receiving specialized evaluations and services at a critical stage in their development, which can have lasting positive impacts on learning and social outcomes.
Provides stability for school personnel. Certified school psychologists and administrators can plan their staffing and program offerings without uncertainty about the legal status of their roles and responsibilities, improving school operations and service delivery.
Signals ongoing legislative attention. The extension buys more time for lawmakers to consider permanent solutions or further reforms, indicating that the state recognizes the importance and complexity of special education policy for young children.
