What's happening
This bill expands outreach and support for minority and women-owned business enterprises and appropriates $1 million for these efforts.
Why it matters
Increases transparency and access to opportunities. by requiring the state to publish detailed lists of outreach seminars, contacts, resources, and events for minority and women-owned business enterprises (MWBEs) on an official website, making it easier for these businesses to find and engage with state contracting opportunities.
Targets support for under-represented minority groups. (specifically defined as those with less than 20% participation in state MWBE contracts, such as Black and Hispanic business owners), aiming to address disparities within the broader MWBE community and ensure outreach is more equitable.
Expands the mandate for educational outreach. by emphasizing not just general MWBE certification, but also tailored promotion to minority groups that have historically had less access to state contracts, potentially increasing diversity among state contractors.
Directs funding to MWBE development. with a specific $1 million appropriation, signaling a concrete investment in capacity-building, outreach, and support programs for minority and women-owned businesses, which could lead to increased participation and economic opportunity for these groups.
