What's happening
This bill increases the maximum state reimbursement for salaries of vocational education staff from $10,500 to $13,800 per person.
Why it matters
Increases funding support for vocational education staff. By raising the maximum reimbursable salary per staff member, schools may be better able to attract and retain qualified vocational teachers, directors, assistants, and supervisors.
Adjusts state aid to reflect inflation and labor market changes. The higher cap acknowledges rising salary costs and helps ensure state aid keeps pace with the actual expenses of employing vocational education professionals.
Potentially expands student access to quality vocational programs. Improved funding for staff could lead to more robust, better-staffed vocational programs, benefiting students seeking career and technical education pathways.
May ease financial pressure on local school districts. With a higher state reimbursement limit, counties and school districts might find it more financially feasible to maintain or grow vocational education offerings without bearing the full burden of rising salary costs.

Title of bill
An act to amend the education law, in relation to salaries for vocational education and extension work
Purpose
This increases the state reimbursement level for the salaries of teachers, directors, assistants and supervisors employed by a county maintained vocational education and extension board.
Summary of specific provisions
Section One increases the state reimbursement level for the salaries of certain professionals employed by a county operated vocational education and extension board.
Justification
County operated fire academies serve an important public safety function. They provide classroom instruction and field training for local fire departments within the county. Courses range from basic firefighting skills to incident command, incident management and other specialized training. These skills help prepare these first responders for the emergencies that they encounter during the course of their service to our communities.
Currently, the state reimburses the counties operating a vocational education and extension board for a portion of the salary of instructors, directors, supervisors and assistants. However, the reimbursement is capped at 50% of the individual salary, not to exceed $10,500. This reimbursement cap rate has not been increased since 1990. Due to the fact that salary costs have increased exponentially over the past three decades, this legislation aims to provide a slight increase in state the reimbursement rate in order to provide mandate relief to impacted counties.
