What's happening
This bill updates how Yonkers receives and uses foreign fire insurance tax funds, aligning their use with specific state insurance law sections.
Why it matters
Clarifies how Yonkers can use foreign fire insurance tax funds. , specifically requiring their use to align with sections 9104 and 9105 of the state insurance law, which may differ from previous, broader or less-specific uses.
Removes specific mandates previously in place. , such as the automatic 10% payment to the Volunteer Firemen’s Home and the explicit direction of funds for indigent and disabled firemen, making the law more consistent with statewide practices.
Potentially changes how benefits are distributed. by tying Yonkers to the same rules as other fire departments in New York, which could affect local control, transparency, and the range of allowable expenditures for fire department welfare and support activities.
