What's happening
This bill allows the court attendant for the town of Somers, Westchester County, to reside anywhere within the county, not just within the town.
Why it matters
Expands the pool of eligible candidates. for the Somers court attendant position by allowing any qualified resident of Westchester County—not just those living within Somers—to apply, potentially improving hiring flexibility and access to talent.
May help address staffing challenges. if the town has struggled to fill the court attendant role due to a limited local applicant pool, thus supporting more consistent court operations.
Maintains local residency requirements elsewhere. , signaling that this change is tailored to Somers and not a blanket relaxation of residency rules for court attendants in other towns, which could be important for local accountability and representation in most communities.
