What's happening

The "lawn litter law act" makes it easier to hold advertisers liable for unsolicited advertising materials left at properties.

Why it matters

  1. Makes it easier for property owners to seek accountability. by removing the requirement that unsolicited advertising must be placed at two or more premises before the advertiser can be presumed liable—now, even a single instance can trigger liability.

  2. Shifts the burden of proof onto advertisers. whose names or contact information appear on unwanted materials, making it harder for companies to claim ignorance or deny responsibility for “lawn litter.”

  3. Encourages businesses to rethink advertising strategies. by increasing the legal risks and potential penalties associated with distributing unsolicited materials, potentially reducing neighborhood litter and nuisance.

  4. Empowers local enforcement and residents. to take action more quickly and effectively against violators, supporting cleaner and more orderly communities.
