What's happening

This bill prohibits motor vehicle dealers from advertising lease specials that apply to only a limited number of in-stock vehicles meeting advertised specifications.

Why it matters

  1. Addresses misleading advertising. The bill targets a common tactic where dealers promote attractive lease offers that are actually available only on a very small number of vehicles, which can mislead consumers and waste their time.

  2. Promotes fair competition. By requiring that advertised lease specials apply to all in-stock vehicles meeting the advertised specifications, the law would create a more level playing field among dealers and improve transparency in the market.

  3. Empowers consumers. Buyers will have clearer expectations about what deals are genuinely available, reducing the chances of "bait-and-switch" scenarios and enhancing consumer confidence in vehicle shopping.

  4. Could influence dealer inventory practices. Dealers may need to adjust how they advertise and manage inventory to comply, potentially leading to more honest and consistent leasing promotions statewide.
