What's happening

This bill requires print ads showing discounted prices to also display the original price in the same font and size.

Why it matters

  1. Helps prevent misleading advertising. by ensuring that consumers see both the original and discounted prices with equal prominence, making it harder for businesses to obscure actual savings or inflate perceived discounts.

  2. Enables easier price comparison. for shoppers, since the original price must be clearly visible and not hidden in fine print, allowing consumers to make more informed purchasing decisions.

  3. Promotes transparency and trust. in the marketplace, as requiring the same font and size for both prices discourages deceptive practices and supports fair competition among businesses.

  4. Applies to all print advertisements. , meaning that retailers and advertisers must update their marketing materials and could face legal consequences for non-compliance, potentially impacting advertising strategies and costs.
