What's happening
This bill makes electronic commerce contracts unenforceable if the seller's website does not list a business address and landline phone number.
Why it matters
Enhances consumer protection. by ensuring buyers can reach the seller through a verified business address and landline, making it harder for fraudulent or untraceable businesses to operate.
Increases accountability for online sellers,. as failure to provide this information voids their ability to enforce contracts in court—effectively giving consumers leverage in disputes.
Could impact the operations of smaller or newer e-commerce businesses. that may not have a fixed business address or landline, possibly limiting their ability to sell online or requiring them to update their contact information to comply.
Encourages greater transparency in online commerce,. helping to build trust in electronic transactions and reducing the risk of scams for consumers in New York.
