What's happening

This bill requires county boards of elections to report on the assignments and unfilled positions of election inspectors and poll clerks.

Why it matters

  1. Improves transparency and accountability. by requiring county boards of elections to publicly document not just election coordinator roles, but also which poll sites still lack assigned inspectors or clerks, along with steps taken to fill those gaps.

  2. Helps identify and address staffing shortages. ahead of elections, providing voters, advocacy groups, and policymakers with advance notice of potential problems that could affect polling place operations or voter access.

  3. Facilitates proactive problem-solving. by mandating these reports be filed at least a month before elections, giving officials time to recruit or reassign staff to ensure all poll sites are adequately covered.

  4. Supports election integrity and public trust. by making it harder for staffing deficiencies to go unnoticed or unaddressed, which can reduce wait times, confusion, and risk of errors on election day.
