What's happening
This bill requires automobile auctioneers to disclose if vehicles made after September 1997 are missing or have non-functioning airbags.
Why it matters
Improves consumer safety awareness. by ensuring buyers at auctions know if a car is missing airbags or has non-functioning ones, which could affect their decision to purchase and their safety on the road.
Targets vehicles manufactured after September 1997. , a period when airbags became standard equipment, closing a loophole where auctioned cars could be sold without crucial safety information.
Requires clear, written, and visible warnings. (both on sales documents and on the vehicle itself), making it harder for sellers to hide critical safety defects or for buyers to overlook this information.
Holds automobile auctioneers accountable. , potentially reducing the number of unsafe vehicles on the road and encouraging better industry practices through mandatory disclosures.
