What's happening
This bill allows producers in agricultural districts with working family farms to build a home on their farm property.
Why it matters
Empowers family farmers by giving them explicit legal authority to build homes on their own land. , which could make it easier for the next generation to remain on or return to the family farm, thus supporting farm succession and rural community stability.
Reduces potential regulatory or local government barriers. that may have previously made it difficult for producers to construct residences on agricultural property, potentially streamlining permitting processes and clarifying land use rights.
May help sustain working farms. by allowing family members or workers to live on-site, which can improve farm operations, security, and responsiveness to farm needs, potentially making family farming more viable in the long term.
