What's happening
This bill removes the exception allowing darker rear window tints on vehicles with dual side mirrors, requiring all rear windows to have at least 70% light transmittance.
Why it matters
Standardizes window tint rules across all vehicles. by eliminating the previous exemption for vehicles with dual side mirrors, meaning every vehicle must now comply with the same minimum light transmission for rear windows.
Could increase safety for law enforcement and first responders. by making it easier to see inside vehicles during traffic stops or emergencies, reducing risks associated with heavily tinted rear windows.
May impact privacy and comfort for vehicle owners. , especially those who previously relied on the mirror exemption to use darker tints for privacy, sun protection, or temperature control in their cars.
Requires current vehicle owners and businesses (like tint shops) to adjust to new compliance standards. , potentially leading to additional costs for removing or replacing non-conforming rear window tints.
