What's happening
This bill requires a study of entrance and exit ramp safety and signage on the Southern State Parkway, with recommendations due in two years.
Why it matters
Addresses a specific safety concern. By focusing on entrance and exit ramp configurations and signage, the bill aims to tackle known causes of collisions and wrong-way driving, which have been persistent safety issues on the Southern State Parkway.
Brings multiple stakeholders to the table. The mandated study involves consultation with local governments, police, transportation agencies, and other groups, ensuring that a broad range of perspectives and expertise inform the evaluation and recommendations.
Could lead to concrete safety improvements. The study is required to assess the feasibility of specific design and signage changes as well as explore available federal funding, potentially paving the way for actionable upgrades that could reduce accidents and save lives.
